Why Study at Paraclete Academy?

Do you want to think outside the box and build on your strengths while shoring up your weaknesses?

The teachers at Paraclete Academy serve as guides to help you take ownership of your learning: What are your gifts? What are your weaknesses? Who are your heroes, and how do you be more like them? Maybe you’ll decide that your path is one that leads you to university life; maybe you’re destined for a trade or the armed services, or perhaps for the religious life… There are as many paths as people. We help you find yours.

Do you want to learn how to drive and manage your own learning?

While students engage with many of the ideas and materials in a standard high school, we are not limited by the 9-month period that hamstrings so many curricula and we integrate across disciplines. If you need more time with geometry, physics, writing, etc., you will have it; if you need to move faster, you may. While teachers “teach”, ultimately you must teach yourself and develop the discipline necessary for learning, especially when a topic is difficult. Patience and perseverance are key.

Do you want to build community?

With adult guidance, Paraclete students design and organize their own social events (first Saturdays of the month), field trips, pilgrimages, and service projects. Research, cost comparison, excel spreadsheets, promotional flyers, and developing email lists all play a part in building community. Do you want to lead through service to a community?

Do you want to deepen your prayer life and live out the spiritual and corporal works of mercy?

Prayer is at the heart of Paraclete Academy and animates all we do. We begin our day with student-led prayer. We usually attend daily Mass and are often lectors. We spend time every week in the Adoration Chapel. Integrated into every field trip planned by the students is a pilgrimage. Soon the students will be picking a service project for the year which will involve either “feeding the hungry,” “clothing the naked,” or “caring for the sick.”

Do you want to "set the world on fire”?

"I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!" (Luke 12:49)

The word of God is illuminating and awesome. God has made you for something great which, among other things, will involve setting the world “ablaze” with the wondrous truth of the Good News. Come and see!
